Crew Information

  • Name: Thomas (Tom) Riley
  • Role: Captain
  • Bio: Captain Tom is a lifelong passionate sailor and started sailing when he was 12 years old in a very avid sailing community just outside of Montreal, the Hudson Yacht Club. The laser was designed and built in Montreal in the early 70s, and Tom got one right away and started racing. He raced many Olympic class boats, including the Tornado, giving him his first taste of multihulls! Tom started racing keel boats at the age of 16, which led to delivering boats to and from races all over the Great Lakes and the East Coast. Tom spent most of the last 25 years working and playing in the Rocky Mountains of western Canada. For the past 15 years, Tom was in charge of Public Safety at one of Canada's largest Ski and Snowboard Resorts gaining an extensive background in First Aid, Rescue, Avalanche Control Operations and Ski Area Management. Throughout his years in ski area tourism, Tom has learned to focus on 'the guest experience'. "We want to communicate with you before your sailing holiday, so that we can help plan the experience of a lifetime for you!" Tom is also an avid snorkeler, surfer and diver with more than 900 dives in many of the most famous dive locations in the world. Tom plans on becoming a Divemaster this fall/winter, while exploring more of the undersea world of the British Virgin Islands. When Tom began working in the ski business in the late 70s, it was seasonal work, and he could return to eastern Canada to sail and race for summer seasons. He did his first bareboat charter in 1981 out of Antigua with a group of non-sailors from the ski business, and knew that some day that would be his life! Taking a year off from skiing in 1986, Tom took a position as Captain of a private sailboat out of California sailing the coast of Central and South America down to Ecuador, the Galapagos and back to Los Angeles. Tom then spent some time delivering yachts on the West Coast and in the Pacific. Friends in the ski business started asking Tom to put together sailing vacations for them in the Caribbean. They chartered out of Grenada, St. Vincent, Martinique, St Martin and the British Virgin Islands. More people wanted to go sailing, so they found bigger boats to charter, and realized that the big cats were the best platform for sailors and non-sailors to enjoy their vacation.

  • Name: Michelle Puzzuoli
  • Role: Chef & First Mate
  • Bio: Born just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Michelle was raised in an Italian household. Her love of authentic cuisine was cultivated at an early age, when she would watch and help her grandmother cook traditional Italian dishes from scratch. The secrets of Italian cuisine were also learned while traveling to her family's small Italian village. Those summers spent in Italy with her siblings and parents only cemented Michelle's love of experiencing new surroundings and meeting new people. Michelle's first taste of sailing was had while working as a camp counsellor in Ontario. With access to a Laser, some basic skills were learned. She has further sailed in Caribbean and Atlantic ocean waters. Her past and current interests have taken her travelling throughout Canada, the US, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Holland, Thailand, Cuba and the Caribbean. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics, Michelle moved to Calgary, Alberta. While working in the oil and gas industry, Michelle spent as much time skiing, hiking or biking in the Rocky Mountains. In 2006, Michelle completed a Yoga Siromani (Teacher's Training) course. This came about after she stumbled into her first yoga class, and was instantly drawn to its flow and movement. Since that time, Michelle has been teaching various Yoga styles, including Ashtanga, Power / Vinyasa Flow, Yoga-Pilates and Hatha Yoga. Her teaching philosophy is that yoga should be fun and playful, allowing individuals to get to know themselves better through practice. Importantly, it should also be tailored to suit an individual's particular needs and abilities.
