What a great place to sail!! This was our first (but certainly not our last) trip to these lovely islands. Previously we had sailed in the BVI and owned a 48' cat in the Spanish Virgins for 5 years. Those were very good experiences but sailing we experienced in the Grenadines was a cut above. This place is different. Reaches and runs were longer here, the wind more consistent (and challenging), and the number of anchorage choices more numerous. The island residents are friendly and outgoing. The boat boys in the Tobago Cays are a hoot -- the shopping literally comes to you! We sailed under a single reef all vacation but often hit 10-11 knots in 20-25 knot winds. Late January provided the requisite afternoon squall or two, but we only had one full day of rain out of ten. In sum the sailing was more exhilarating but the pace more relaxed -- can't beat that combination.

No ATMs to be found and very few merchants accept VISA or AMEX....Take lots of cash, as you'll need it for provisions. Very stressful to be counting coins for bags of ice....TAKE CASH.
Locals are indifferent to tourists....similar to Bahamians. Great sailing...providing you find a reputable outfit. Anchorages are nice but more trash and poverty than charm is ashore.- Overall Rating
