Amazing trip. Procida is the island that tourism forgot. The first thing you see when you take the ferry in from Naples are Italian women hanging laundry out the windows of their pastel harbor houses. The steep winding streets and tiny shops are almost cliche in their quantness, but endearing nonetheless. In October, we were the only Americans on the island surrounded by vacationing Neopolitans and Europeans. The people at Sail Italia were more than helpful from orientation on the boat, to giving us a free cell phone to call them in case of emergency, to jumping in the water in underwear to untangle an errant rope wrapped around our keel (a highlight of the trip). After spending a night in Procida, we sailed down the Amalfi Coast to the town of Amalfi (a 6 hour trip), then onto Capri, and back through the bay of Naples to Procida. Our 33 foot boat was comfortable for 2, with 2 cabins, a small kitchen, bathroom, and sitting area. Maps and radio were included, as were all other basic essentials. With only one experienced sailor on board, the boat was completely manageable. The best bit of advice is to get a English to Italian phrase book to help you communicate with the harbors you plan to dock in. Even with less than ideal weather, it was a great trip and definately the best way to see the Amalfi Coast.
