This was my 5th charter with AYC, and it was a great experience. Spent a week on one of their 42' Catalina sailboats in the San Juan and Gulf Islands. Boat was in great shape, performed well and the staff was thorough and responsive. Check out and stay-aboard the night before makes leaving on your trip relaxed and easy the next day.
I have had a couple mechanical issues on previous charters with AYC sailboats, but the staff responded well, sent service people to the boat and compensated for lost time. This trip was close to perfect.- Overall

This is a quote from Anacortes Yacht Charters (AYC) Guarantee from their website
“Anacortes Yacht Charters guarantees that; should you have a breakdown during your charter, we will complete repairs within 4 (four) hours of notification, or you will be compensated for your vacation time lost.”
Based on our experience they did not make their guarantee. Our trip had been in the planning for over 2 years with some folks coming all the way from Honduras and the rest of us from California. Considerable expense, planning and logistics had been spent on this 7 day charter in the San Juan Islands. On the 5th day of our 7 day charter the engine would not start and our vacation turned into hours spent dealing with the problem and eventually returning the jury-rigged boat back to Anacortes on the 6th day, one day earlier than scheduled.
In hindsight I should have discontinued the charter when the engine malfunctioned and had AYC spend the time and cost of retrieving the boat and getting it back to the marina on their dime. Instead, we brought the disabled boat back ourselves, but we did expect to recieve some compensation for the lost time. We didn’t ask for the 2 actual days lost of our vacation but only the 1 day left on the charter when we returned the boat, pretty fair I think.
The disposition of this matter has been going on for 3 months and all correspondence by phone, voicemail and email to AYC has been ignored. The 300 or so dollars of compensation is not much in comparison to the total expense of our trip but it is the principle of fair and decent service from a company that advertises that this is so.
We will not charter at Anacortes Yacht Charters ever again and we will not be recommending the company to anyone else.- Overall

We have had the best experience with this company over the past several years. We usually charter the larger power yachts and have yet to be disappointed. This year a 53 footer with four staterooms and heads, huge salon, and a flybridge that would handle a major party. We'll be back!!!!!

Have been chartering with AYC or a few years now and have always been very happy and satisfied with the boats and service. This year however it was very different.
Chartered one of the only boats available - an Irwin 37 called 'U Got A B KiddING" which looked great on the website. When we get to it, it turns out to be a not well maintained boat that the owner who is doing the checkout talks up that it has many amenties for cruising which it actually does. He is 'cleaning' it when we get there by wiping down counters with water moistened paper towels. Then he goes to get gas and this and that and that and this and finally we just want to get out of there so the checkout is not so thorough in the interest of time. What a mistake.
List of issue was long: winches gummed up, roller furler bound up, grill broken, propane tank empty, tanks not pumped out,...
When AYC is called spoke with AYC owner the first time - said he would see what he could do. Next calls were forwarded to someone else who said, "You know its not a brand new racing boat" at which point I lost all respect for AYC. Turns out that they don't inspect all of the boats in their fleet AND the owner of the boat has never SAILED it (it is a sailboat you know). The offered us free extra days, but who wants to spend more days on a boat the AYC should be EMBARRASED TO HAVE IN THEIR FLEET! On top of that some of the folks had planes to catch!
I no longer can recommend AYC as a charter company as they do not take responsibility for the quality of boats in their fleet, and when one calls for service - there seems to be none. Go with someone else - really.- Overall

Very disappointed with experience: Owner told AYC auto pilot didn't function but didn't notify us, took 2.5 hours for check out as employee didn't know boat, aft head didn't drain (owner/AYC knew this), dinghy motor clamps frozen on pulpit mount, knot meter & true wind meter didn't function, tachometer wasn't calibrated (owner/AYC knew), AYC has yet to apologize

Chartered a 53 foot yacht which was in perfect condition. Cruising here is great and well protected from storms. Weather is wonderful with warm days and cool night. Not to be missed - Roche Harbor, Friday Harbor, Sucia Island. Friday and Roche have great restaurants and facilities with great dock crews. Portable black water pumping is available and is complimentary at Roche.
