Ft. Lauderdale in Florida is a popular sailboat and yacht charter destination as the city is known quite well as having a Venetian-esque feel due to all the watercourses and canals. Here, sailors won’t run short of supplies or sailing yarns as there are over 40,000 inhabitants with yachts mooring in any of the 100 harbors. From here, it’s a decent line-of-sight sail east to Freeport or southeast to the Bahamas, with the Florida Keys right around the corner. The wind here can come from the Atlantic in gusts if you try chartering a sailboat late in the season. You’ll have the best sailing from January to May.
