Mike chartered with The Moorings in January 2004Review written on January 8, 2008 Moorings help make BVIs

The Moorings helped our family have an excellent sailing trip in the BVIs. They sent one of their staff with us for the first half of the first day, since it was our first time chartering a yacht. After that, however, we didn't hear from them...which was exactly what we wanted, since we were trying to be independent. Excellent customer service!

Stephen chartered with The Moorings in January 2008Review written on March 4, 2008 Another great sailing trip with Moorings

First, the Mooring's base. It has improved significantly from our first trip to BVI back in 2005. They have a beautiful new reception area, new spa quality individual private bathrooms with showers (and towels) for charterers, and they are still completing an expansion to the hotel that should be complete later this year or early 2009. Best of all, Moorings now provides a cab to the grocery store to pick up provisions (there are also now some supply stores on site but we took the cab to a BVI version of Costco). There is a restaurant, bar, hotel, and pool on-site that charterers have access to, as well.

Now for the sailing. The boat was in great condition. All of Mooring's boats are only a few years old and our Lagoon 43' Cat was no exception. Everything was in good shape - our boat was already stocked with ice, sheets, and towels, and they gave us an extra dinghy and cooler because of our larger group (13 sailors age 22-26!). Throughout our week we only ran into one problem: the main sheet became tangled in the pulley at the top of the mast when we tried to take down the main sail when we came into port one afternoon. We called Moorings and early the next morning a boat arrived with a harness to hoist someone to the top of the mast and untangle the lines. With our main sail now in working order, we were prepared to set sail and continue our wonderful vacation on our Moorings Yacht.

Elaine chartered with The Moorings in February 2008Review written on March 31, 2008 Fabulous vacation!

My husband and recently I took our children for a sail with The Moorings. As a family we have been with them 3 times. We love this vacation. Lots for the kids to do (swimming, snorkeling) and the cruising grounds are wonderful. Our vacations have always been reliably fun with great service and great yachts. Next time we plan to sail with friends. Thumbs up for The Moorings.

Judy and Dan chartered with The Moorings in June 2008Review written on August 5, 2008 Great service and fantastic snorkeling/sailing adventure

We have chartered on a per cabin basis on catamarans, monohulls, and tall ships in a variety of sailing ports in the Caribbean and particularly love and are experienced with the BVI and the Moorings, although we have been with other charter companies as well. The service this year, the food, and the interest in giving us the best adventure for our week were the best we have ever encountered and we've been plenty pleased in the past - particularly with the Moorings. We would recommend for anyone that loves sailing catamarans and snorkeling or diving to charter with the Moorings!

Matt chartered with The Moorings in January 2008Review written on January 28, 2008 Very accommodating service, great base facility, and high quality boats

My second time chartering with The Moorings in BVI and I was very pleased. I was quickly checked in upon arrival and received lots of assistance from the large staff on premises the Sunday we started our charter. Boat briefing was probably the best and most thorough I've ever gotten. We did not do provisioning with The Moorings. They were also nice enough to provide a second dinghy to accommodate our large group of 12. The Moorings had just received over 500 new outboards for their dinghies and these things hummed.

The 43' catamaran was in great shape, very clean, and ready for us to turn the key and sail away. The boat fared well the entire week, giving us no problems except for a few headaches with the head (which could have been user error). While I had no problems with our yacht, I spoke with a few other charterers who told of the luxuries of their chartered boat (washer & dryer, electric head flush, etc). I guess I didn't know what I was missing out on...

Service upon checkout was equally as cordial, with a minor hiccup making the checkout last a little over 1 hour. Overall another great experience with this dependable company. I think we paid a little more than other similar charters, as our 43' catamaran ran about $6600 for 6 nights (even after about 20% in discounts and gift certificates).

Catherine Howard chartered with The Moorings in March 2012Review written on March 30, 2012 All Went Well

My husband & I and four other friends just returned from an 8 day cruise around Tortola. Everyone agreed that, with a few minor exceptions, the company, service, staff and equipment was wonderful. We've owned sailboats for over 30 years, and our friends have owned powerboat for over 50 years. We all agreed Moorings provided wonderful service. Of course we experienced a few problems. It's boating right? and subject to u expected things happening. But upon arrival, staff was efficient and courteous, the boat (a 43" Benetaeu) was spotless, ready for the 6 of us, and when, for example, we discovered the navigation unit wasn't working, they replaced it instantly with one that worked. Again, boating issues occur. During our 8 days, we visited Norman, Peter, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and returned to Norman for our final night out. It was all awesome! Yes the boat "heads" emitted an odor after a few days. It's a boat, not a home. The outboard on the dinghy was sometimes goofy, but it worked great as a shore-boat and took us to various coves when we were anchored. The overall vacation was more expensive than anticipated, but the experience was more fabulous than we thought possible, so it's subjective. Upon returning to Moorings after our 8 days, the staff could not have been more proficient or polite helping us return the boat safely to the dock. Our friends kept a considerable amount of expensive equipment onboard and we didn't worry about leaving the boat "unguarded" when we went out for dinner and nothing was stolen from us. From my perspective, I would rate this company as excellent. Again, having had boats for most of our married lives, I know very well how much time, care, effort and money my husband put into having our boat run smoothly - but sometimes things broke or didn't work as planned. We hope to do this charter again within the next year and we will return to the Moorings.

Matt chartered with The Moorings in January 2004Review written on December 28, 2007 Quality company

Great service all around from this company. Started with an excellent chart briefing and boat run through. Boat was in great shape and seemed pretty new. Had 1 minor problem with the boom vang (that might have been user error) and Moorings was great about guiding us through the process of fixing it over the radio.

Susie chartered with The Moorings in January 2004Review written on January 8, 2008 Very pleased with Moorings

I booked our family's charter with Moorings and was pleased with them from start to finish. This was my first time booking a sailing charter and they were very patient of my many questions, pleasant to work with, and professional. When we actually began the charter, their on-shore chart review/information session was very comprehensive. Since we were bareboating for the first time, we requested that one of their sailors accompany us for a 2- hour orientation sail out beyond the harbor, which was incredibly helpful and made us feel more confident and secure. They're not the least expensive charter company around, but I definitely think that their knowledge, experience, service, quality of boats, etc. is well worth the extra money. I wouldn't hesitate to book from them again. Rated boat quality and cleanliness a "4" instead of a "5" simply because we had knowlingly rented an older boat and cosmetically it showed it's age -- even though there were no actual problems with quality or cleanliness.

Bill chartered with The Moorings in January 2008Review written on January 31, 2008 Great Boat and Facilities

This was my first expedition charting a sail boat, nonetheless, Moorings supplied us with a quality boat at a reasonable price. Moorings had just recently expanded their facilities at the dock we were based out of and it was incredible. The boat (4300) was a good size and easily slept the 12 of us on the boat. My only complaint was that they charged us $106 (US) for a missing cushion... It seemed like a lot when cushions were for sale in a local shop for $36.
