The Bay of Islands, located off the northeast coast of New Zealand, offer a prime location for chartering and sailing. October through May is the best season to head out to sea in the Bay of Islands, with calm water and clear line-of-sight conditions. The Bay holds around 300 islands, almost all of which have moorings in the harbors. The islands themselves are spectacularly lush (as well as many which are uninhabited and can only be reached by boat).
